Stocksbridge Junior School have had a memorable year in sports so far, but nobody expected the heights achieved this week by our gymnastics team. On the 16th March 2 squads from our school represented Sheffield in the South Yorkshire Finals, competing against the best gymnastic teams from Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster and Sheffield. Both teams had previously qualified for the finals by winning the Sheffield city finals at the beginning of the month. This prestigious event was held at the English Institute of Sport where children got to meet Olympic silver medallist Bryony Page, be involved in an opening ceremony and watch talented dance performances from school across the district. Both of our teams performed fantastically well on the day and they were a real credit to the school and their parents for their effort, behaviour and sportsmanship.

Our lower school foundation squad performed incredibly well on both floor and vault and finished in 4th place overall against some very strong gymnasts with key contributions from both of our year 3 gymnasts, Chloe and Evie, who are a year younger than most other competitors.

Our upper school foundation squad of Martha, Ula, Rhona, Marley and Sophie we are very pleased announce are the SOUTH YORKSHIRE GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONS!!!!! Well done to everyone involved, we are so very very proud of all of you including all the children, who have worked hard in the after school gymnastics club on a Thursday evening. A special thank you to Mrs Proost, who gave up her time to support our club. Her help in getting the teams ready for competing was really appreciated and her detailed coaching certainly made the difference to our overall team scores.

The South Yorkshire winners’ trophy will be on display in our cabinet in the school entrance.
