Y5/6 Rugby Competition

posted 18 May 2017, 04:10 by J Tee
Team Stocksbridge was on the road again hoping to emulate last years amazing effort at the 2016 rugby competition, getting to the semi-finals only losing to the overall winners and eventual national champions.

This years team consisted of 5 year 5's which will stands us in a good place again for next years competition. The games are 8 a side having a minimum of 2 girls on the pitch at any one time. Tag rugby is all about being organised, attacking with speed and agility and defending as a team. We did this really well in the group stages, beating Brunswick, Woodthorpe and Hallam progressing to the knock out stages. We played well again to progress through to the semi-final, playing the tournament favorites and last years winners St. Wilfreds. In a thrilling game we stormed to victory playing some unbelievable rugby and showing some real Stocksbridge determination. Out of 21 school teams from all over the city, some being traditional rugby schools, team Stocksbridge played for the title of Sheffield City Rugby Champions. We were beaten in the final however, we scored 3 fantastic tries, the difference being one up and coming young superstar who scored all of their 5 tries.

I want to say a big thank you to our children's families who came to support us and a massive congratulation to our Y5/6 rugby team.
