A while ago, SJS took part in a competition to design a flag all about the upcoming Tour de Yorkshire. We doodled our designs and they were sent to Stocksbridge Town Council to be judged by the Mayor himself! Yesterday in assembly, we found out who the winner was; none other than our very own Mason! Mason won a chocolate egg and a mass reproduction of his flag given to every child in the school. Well done!

This week is full of Tour de Yorkshire celebrations and here at SJS we have been lucky enough to have lots of activities about the TDY, including a special bike race! We had a professional come into school and teach us all about our bikes - then we were ready to race! We took part in relays and competitions and even raced against Miss Vickers! Here are some photos from our exhausting morning!

Please find attached additional homework for my math set. Children are not expected to return this by a certain date however I would like them to work on these questions over the break until they feel confident with improper fractions and mixed number fractions, as we found this tricky. Enjoy!

Children have not had spellings this week as we are recapping basic HFW.
Please find attached the new spellings, looking at the 'or' sound. I will give these out on Friday for children to practice over the week.

Today Y5HV welcomed all of our parents/guardians into our class to show them what we have been learning about - Pharaohs! It was a snug fit, but we worked really hard showing our visitors what we know about Ancient Egypt (including Tutankahmun and The Rosetta Stone) and making our very own cartouche's! Here are some pictures of us working hard....

Thank you all for coming.

Last week we were lucky enough to have a visit from the RNLI. We learnt all about what the organisation is and what a fantastic service it provides all around our country to people in need.
We learnt all about how to stay safe around open water, we spotted dangers and were able to practice saving each other!
