Modern Foreign Languages at Stocksbridge Junior School
Modern Foreign Languages at SJS
At Stocksbridge Junior School we are keen to develop children’s language learning skills and their intercultural awareness throughout Key Stage 2, ahead of the Entitlement to language learning, which became statutory in September 2014.
Children are encouraged to develop their language learning skills so that they become more independent and confident at both understanding and producing increasingly sophisticated language.
Nous aimons le français!
In Year 3 we have had fun learning the words for different foods as part of our Scrumdiddlyumptious topic. We loved hearing the story of The Hungry Caterpillar with our teachers using a puppet to act out the story for us.
We are now learning days of the week and months of the year. We are finding out about how life is different in France. For example, would you prefer to go to school in France where they have a day off on Wednesday but have lessons on Saturday morning?
In Year 4 we have been learning parts of the body and have enjoyed testing each other by working in talk partners. We designed our own monsters with different numbers of eyes, noses and ears. We labelled our pictures using all the words for the parts of our face. Can you remember the key words for eyes, nose, ears, mouth and head? Can you remember the word for teeth? How did we find this an easy one to remember?
We are now using our fantastic knowledge of nursery rhymes to spot rhyming words and develop our knowledge of new words.
In Year 5 and 6, we have been writing simple sentences about zoo animals! We enjoyed our animal impressions! Also we have been trying to include some conjunctions and quantifiers in our writing. Can you remember what these key words mean?
