Music at Stocksbridge Junior School
Music is a very important part of our curriculum at Stocksbridge Junior School!. All children are taught music in school on a regular basis as a crucial part of our Cornerstones topics which cover all of the foundation subjects.
Whole class singing sessions also take place every week.
Here are some examples of areas of music which have been covered recently:
- Y3: ‘Carnival of the Animals’ by Camille Saint-Seans as part of the ‘Predators’ topic. Year 3 listened to the music, learnt about the composer and drew pictures of the animals featured in the piece.
- Y4: Music inspired by water as part of the ‘Blue Abyss’ topic. Year 4 listened to pieces of music such as ‘April Showers’ and ‘Blue Danube’ reflecting on how they portrayed different types of water.
- Y5: ‘The Planets Suite’ by Gustav Holst. Year 5 have been listening to the different pieces of music and using musical terminology to describe what they can hear. They also looked at comparisons between The Suite and the modern day music linked to space.
- Y6: Learning songs from the war. -Year 6 have been learning songs such as ‘It’s a long way to Tipperary’, ‘We’ll Meet Again’ and ‘Run Rabbit Run’ as part of their topics on World War 1 and World War 2. Children performed these songs to parents at their Christmas performance.
