This week at SJS, we have been working on our Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) during PE as they are the key to being able to enjoy any sport or physical activity. Having a strong FMS base give children a first step to a happier, more active and enjoyable life. FMS are a specific set of gross motor skills that involves different component of fitness such as speed, agility, balance and co-ordination. These skills are building blocks for more complex skills that children will learn throughout their lives. During PE, we have set up an assault course that consists of ladders, hurdles, balance beam, stepping stones and vault. They progress through a series of movement challenges that get progressively more complex in addition to learning the ‘Squat on’ vault. A really enjoyable and fun session, well done team Stocky!
